It occurred to me today that this is a great slogan for idolatrous people. I think what it really means is that there is hope, but it will require change and our guy can do it. Maybe "hope in change" would more accurately communicate the intent of the slogan. It would be just as useful for any other political party, if not for copyright laws, as they could say our hope is in different changes or maybe in not changing things!
The bottom line is that this is an idolatrous, creation worshipping notion, that suggests hope lies in people and their ideas/plans/policies, rather than in the person and work of Jesus Christ!
Well said, brother. I spent many empty, frustrated years placing my hope in every new thing that made me feel good. Without exception, they ended up not only devoid of any real and lasting fulfillment, but I found myself actually enslaved by the false idols. In all honesty, even when Christ first opened my eyes to see Him in all the promise of His fullness, part of me still feared it would be shown as everything else- hollow in the end. Praise be to God though, just the opposite! While it is true I am constantly left hungry and thirsty for more, He always fills the need (Matthew 5:6). Though I am ever poor in spirit and in mourning, often because of my miserable failings, painfully obvious shortcomings, and proven unworthiness, yet the Spirit of the Savior within me comforts (Matthew 5:3-4). His Word reminds, exhorts, always brings the main things in focus. And should I blow it, I am forever forgiven and redeemed by the work of Jesus on the cross. Truly, what a Savior!!! Let's live as though He's Lord!!! tj
ReplyDeleteTJ... that sounds a lot like something I'ver read before:
ReplyDeleteEcclesiastes 1:2-11
2 “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher,
“Vanity of vanities! All is vanity.” 3 What advantage does man have in all his work Which he does under the sun? 4 A generation goes and a generation comes, But the earth remains forever.
5 Also, the sun rises and the sun sets; And hastening to its place it rises there again. 6 Blowing toward the south, Then turning toward the north, The wind continues swirling along;
And on its circular courses the wind returns. 7 All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow,
There they flow again. 8 All things are wearisome; Man is not able to tell it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing. 9 That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun. 10 Is there anything of which one might say, “See this, it is new”? Already it has existed for ages Which were before us. 11 There is no remembrance of earlier things; And also of the later things which will occur, There will be for them no remembrance among those who will come later still.
I can relate!
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. 14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.
